Internet and Education

In early 19th century, Charles Babbage, an English mechanical engineer and polymath, originated the concept of a programmable computer. It is a general purpose device that can be programmed to carry out a set of arithmetic or logical operations automatically. Since a sequence of operations can be readily changed, the computer can solve more than one kind of problem.

Then there came the Internet, also called Net. It is the largest and widely spread network system-of-all-system with a loosely organized collection of about 25,000 networks accessed by the computers all over the world. it is surprising to know that no one owns the Internet. It has no dominant headquarters, and no complete operational directory to tell users what information is accessible in the system.

How is everything correspond to the Internet? It is done through a standardized protocol called Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). A Server which has a special software (program) that uses the protocol is needed to gain access to the Internet. Originally established  and still promoted by the United States government, the Internet connects not only commercial, industrial and other establishments but all sectors including education and its libraries, campuses, and computer centers.

Navigation using the Net is quite helpful to the generation nowadays. Net user-population is fast growing and new ways are continuously being developed. Browsing is the most attractive way to move around the Internet. A program called browser is used to surf the Net particularly the World Wide Web. Net sites including new demand for services to business, industries, science, government, homes and even in schools have produced. There is a prediction from the experts that the Internet is destined to become the focus of all online communications all over the planet in the future.

Today, even primary school graders in progressive countries are using the Net in searching the history of every country. Almost everything that is needed to be explored can be done by using the Net. Schools are gearing up to take advantage of Internet access.

Information That Could Be Of Help

EDMODO

It is launched at the beginning of the 2008-2009 school year by Nic Borg and Jeff O’Hara, two Chicago-area School Technology Administrators and now the leading social learning platform for the K-12 classroom. It differs from other social networks because it does not require private information from students. It is a safe social learning because they can only access groups to which they have been invited by their teachers. Students cannot be “friended” or contacted by anyone outside of their Edmodo group. They can post messages to their teachers, or to their entire Edmodo group, but couldn't send private messages to each other. Teachers has the full control of their Edmodo groups and can delete posts, monitor all activity, review student posts before they go live, and even set individual students or groups of students to “read-only” access. Setting up of groups as closed private can be done by teachers for classes, clubs, professional development groups and other collaborative projects. Its communication stream  allows teachers and students to manage and view all communication and action items in a single place, from all members of all of their groups. Teachers create assignments and distribute to their students using the assignment post feature. As students log in, they see the assignment in their stream and can view the embedded file or media. It must be the ability of the teacher to create quizzes, edit and load previously created quizzes, provide a quiz description, set the time limit for a quiz, and preview a quiz before sending it to their students (group). Teachers can help students keep track of upcoming assignments, events, projects, school activities, professional obligations, and more. Teachers and students can create profile pages summarizing and tracking themselves as professionals or learners.

QUIPPER

It serves as a link for teachers and learn for students. Its link features simple and speedy online assignments. Teachers can select topics, schedule deadlines and send tasks to their students. Submissions of students are instantly reflected to the link. Core metric such as attainment and study time of the whole class, student groups or individuals can be sorted out by the teacher, Learners could also reap rewards while having fun. Learners could also use this tool using their smartphones. They can browse it wherever they are and whenever they are connected. Students are encouraged to "Master" piecemeal topics, building knowledge one at a time. Specialists created and curated packed topics testing students with multiple different question types.

Both are tools in equipping the students. Though they have similarities, both are unique. Any of these can be useful depending on the strategy of the user. It will always depend on how we will use it.

What is Powerplant Engineering Technology?

At first I thought it is about the Powerplant itself and that I will be a Powerplant Engineer but I discovered more

It is indeed a new experience for me as it sounds like I will be in the field of technology. It has given me an idea that I am going to operate big machines and make some trouble shooting.

Powerplant Engineering Technology deals with the basics and everything about Bench work, Welding, Metallurgy, Practical Electricity, Industrial Electricity, Heating, Ventilation and Air-conditioning (HVAC), Refrigeration and Air-conditioning, Pneumatics, Hydraulics, Internal Combustion Engine, External Combustion Engine, Thermodynamics, Instrumentation and Preventive Maintenance. I couldn’t imagine that I have learned all of these in this course.
